The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, in collaboration with the EURES Cross-Border Partnership, has held a very successful Careers and Jobs Fair in Dundalk. The event took place in Dundalk’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on Tuesday, 15 May, attracting almost 3,000 potential candidates to exhibitor stands from over 50 leading local, national, and cross-border employers.
A wide range of sectors were represented, with employers including Paypal, Irish Life, ABP, LIDL, Cargotec, Moffett Engineering, Musgraves, Matthews Coaches and QME, UHY Farrelly Dawe White. Prominent cross-border employers at the event included Newry based customer service company Teleperformance (Newry), graduate employer First Derivatives, cruise ship outfitters MJM, and the pharmaceutical company Almac which is currently expanding its business into the Dundalk area.
Among the other exhibitors were a range of recruitment companies - Osborne, Finmore, Hays, Marsh Mackey, Servisource and the online recruiter JobsAlert.ie – as well as public sector employers Publicjobs.ie, the HSE, the Defence Forces and An Garda Síochána. The healthcare sector was represented by Home Instead, Bluebird, Homecare, TTM Healthcare and Myhomecare.
The event attracted a broad range of customers too - from commuters looking to find a job locally, to graduates, jobseekers, and those looking to change careers. Feedback from both customers and employers was very positive, with employers saying they were especially pleased at the levels of interest and enthusiasm expressed by visitors to their stands.
Human resources and business support professionals held a range of seminars during the event, as well as one-to-one professional CV coaching. Social welfare and revenue information was available for those considering working cross-border, while the national recruitment website, JobsIreland.ie, had a large display area with facilities for customers to register online and view current job vacancies.
The event was funded by EURES cross-border Partnership in conjunction with the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. The Department’s Employer Relations Unit for the North East can be contacted on (042) 939 27 94 or by emailing employerunitne@welfare.ie
