Electoral registration – received on applications for entry on electoral register or for updating of existing electoral details. The ppsn is checked to verify the identity of persons that register to vote as per electoral act 1992 amended by Electoral Reform Act 2022.

Revenue commissioners – tax purposes – payroll, P60’s, P35, PRSI, PAYE, VAT, etc

Department of Social Protection – tax purposes, identification purposes, illness benefit, maternity leave applications, rent deductions, etc

Private Rented Tenancy Bureau – landlords participating in the Rental Accommodation Scheme

NPPR Bureau – received on application forms and forwarded to Bureau

Housing Finance Agency – loan applications

TUSLA – referring child protection issues

HSE Welfare Officers – assessment of housing applications, grant applications, etc. – PPSN included on application form

HSE Medical Card Applications – for identification and verification purposes

SICAP – registration on the Social Inclusion & Community Activation Programme

Education & Training Boards – for identification purposes and certification of training

Solas – for identification purposes and certification of training

RSA – for identification purposes and certification of training

Regional Training Centres – for certification of training

Department of Education and Skills – for identification purposes and certification of training and for public service requests for superannuation purposes.

What future plans has your County Council for the use of the PPS No.?

It is the intention to use the PPS number as a means of identification of clients wishing to access services online.

  • Keep it only for one or more specified, explicit and lawful proposes;
  • Process it only in ways compatible with the purpose for which it was given to you initially;
  • Keep it safe and secure
  • Keep it accurate, complete and up-to-date
  • Ensure that it is adequate, relevant and not excessive
  • Retain it no longer than is necessary for the specified purpose or purposes
  • Give a copy of his/her personal data to an individual, on request
