SWA - Heating Supplement

What Heating Supplement is

A Heating Supplement is a payment to help with the additional costs of heating your home where you have extra heating needs due to ill-health or infirmity.

You may also apply for the supplement on behalf of a spouse or partner or a dependent child.

How to qualify

In order to qualify for a Heating Supplement, you must have additional heating costs due to the ill-health or infirmity of you or your dependants.

You will have to get a form completed by your medical practitioner (GP/Consultant)

You won't normally be eligible if you (the applicant):

  • have access to other resources to cover the cost
  • are in full-time work (30 hours or more per week)
  • are in full-time education
  • are involved in a trade dispute or on strike

Rates of payment

There is no set 'rate of payment' for the Heating Supplement.

The payment you get will depend on your weekly household income, your savings and investments, your household expenses, the costs of additional heating required, and your ability to meet these costs.

To apply, collect an application form in any Intreo Centre or Branch Office and fill it out there. There is no need to make an appointment.
