Consultation Overview
The aim of this consultation is to seek views from interested parties on the EU proposal to introduce a Regulation on preventing plastic pellet losses to reduce microplastic pollution.
Background
The European Commission published a proposal in October 2023 for a Regulation on preventing plastic pellet losses to reduce microplastic pollution.
The proposal would introduce requirements for certification, record-keeping and risk assessment plans by relevant operators in the EU and on all carriers transporting plastic pellets in the Union. There are lighter requirements for SMEs, to ensure the appropriate mitigation of potential impacts on their operations.
Submissions received will help to inform Ireland’s position in ongoing negotiations in this matter with the relevant European Working Party on the Environment.
