Waste management planning is the responsibility of local authorities under Part II of the Waste Management Act, 1996.
In line with a key objective in A Resource Opportunity – Waste Management Policy in Ireland, the three regions of Connacht-Ulster, Southern, and Eastern-Midlands were established in June 2013, and in May 2015 three waste management plans were published for each.
The plans give effect to national and EU waste policy, and address waste prevention and management (including generation, collection and treatment) over the period 2015-2021.
The plans are available for download from the websites of the Southern Region, the Connacht-Ulster Region, and the Eastern-Midlands Region.
