The British and Northern Ireland Affairs Division comprises three business units: the Ireland-UK Unit, the Northern Ireland Affairs Unit, and the Shared Island Unit. The Division supports the Taoiseach and the Government in fostering reconciliation and developing relationships on the island of Ireland and between the UK and Ireland, underpinned by the Good Friday Agreement. This includes supporting the Taoiseach’s participation in the North South Ministerial Council and the British-Irish Council, as well as supporting cross-Government delivery of commitments under the UK-Ireland 2030 programme of cooperation. The Division also oversees the development and implementation of the Government’s Shared Island Initiative.
