Readout of call with President of the European Council, Charles Michel

Taoiseach, Simon Harris, has today spoken to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.

They discussed the two upcoming European Council meetings in June as well as the Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland on 15/16 June.

The Taoiseach confirmed that he will lead the Irish delegation to the Peace Summit, before attending the European Council in Brussels (17/18 June).

Simon Harris said President Zelensky’s attendance at the emotional commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day in France yesterday was a stark reminder that the terrible spectre of war had returned to Europe.

They also discussed the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in the Middle East and the urgent need for a ceasefire and for the release of hostages.

Simon Harris and Charles Michel agreed to stay in touch in the coming weeks.
