National Modelling Assets for Energy and Climate Change Mitigation
The creation of a document to describe and map the National Modelling Assets for Energy and Climate Change Mitigation began through a series of information sessions for policymakers under the Research and Modelling Group, chaired by the Department of the Taoiseach.
Its purpose is to improve understanding of the various models used in climate and energy policy making, highlight modelling capacity, show inter-connections between different model assets, aid in the identification of any capacity gaps, and provide opportunities to strengthen Ireland’s overall modelling system.
The project involved extensive collaboration, with the following organisations contributing to the development of this document:
- Central Statistics Office
- Commission for Regulation of Utilities
- Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine
- Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment
- Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment
- Department of Finance
- Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage
- Department of the Taoiseach
- Department of Transport
- Economic & Social Research Institute
- Eirgrid
- Environmental Protection Agency
- Met Éireann
- National Transport Authority
- National University of Ireland Maynooth
- Office of Public Works
- Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland
- Teagasc
- Uisce Éireann
- University College Cork
- University College Dublin
- University of Limerick
- University of Galway
The map will be a living document and will be updated as required following future discussion and analysis by the Research and Modelling Group.
