Role

Assistant Secretary, EU and International

The EU and International Division comprises three business units: the EU Policy and Institutions Unit, the European Council and European Neighbourhood Unit and the International Affairs Unit which work together to maintain an overview of EU and international developments and work with others to ensure a coherent whole-of-Government approach. It contributes to policy development on EU and international issues of strategic importance to Ireland. The Division supports the Taoiseach in his role as a member of the European Council and provides strategic input on EU policy matters. It supports the Taoiseach in engagements with counterparts in fellow EU Member States, in the EU institutions and the countries in the European neighbourhood. The Division also supports the Taoiseach in international engagements – both bilateral and multilateral – providing policy advice and analysis and works to promote and protect Ireland’s values, interests and reputation overseas. It works with colleagues across the system to develop and implement the Global Ireland Strategy.
