Responsibilities

European Union

The Europe Unit supports the Taoiseach as a member of the European Council and provides oversight and strategic direction on policy issues such as international trade; security and defence; and external relations, including EU-UK relations. It also works to develop our strategic engagement with the wider European neighbourhood and supports the work of Cabinet Committee on Europe.

International

The International Unit advises the Taoiseach on international policy and supports his international engagements as a Head of Government, working with him to support economic growth, trade, investment and international peace and security, as well as protecting and strengthening Ireland's strategic bilateral and multilateral relationships, and our values, interests and reputation overseas.
