The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, has congratulated Fishamble: The New Play Company on its Fringe First Award for Heaven by Eugene O’Brien at the Edinburgh Fringe.
The Scotsman Fringe First award, which celebrates new writing at the Fringe, was announced at a special event in Edinburgh this morning (Friday 11 August).
Minister Martin said:
“I send my heartiest congratulations to the entire Fishamble team and to Eugene O’Brien, Jim Culleton, Janet Moran and Andrew Bennett in particular on this award. It is an amazing accomplishment for them and an acknowledgement of the strength of the Irish showcase at this year’s Fringe, supported by Culture Ireland.”
Heaven by Eugene O’Brien is currently playing at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh as part of Culture Ireland’s Edinburgh Showcase.
Culture Ireland creates and supports opportunities for Irish artists and companies to present their work internationally. This year’s Edinburgh Showcase features nine productions playing at Fringe venues across Edinburgh, with the dual purposes of reaching new international audiences and creating further international touring opportunities. The full programme for this year’s showcase is available.
