Climate Action and EU/International Affairs

The Climate Action team’s strategic objective is decarbonisation of the transport network. This includes the on-going development and delivery of policy measures arising from the annual Climate Action Plan. This includes promoting the electrification of the transport fleet, alternative fuel infrastructure roll-out, incentivising through regulation the supply of biofuels and other alternative fuels for transport, overseeing the delivery of the National Sustainable Mobility Policy including in particular shared mobility services, development of a national adaptation plan for transport, managing an on-going climate research programme, and delivery of a public engagement strategy to support the required behavioural change. In terms of climate, the Pillar comprises the Climate Engagement and Governance Division, (CEGD) the Climate Adaptation, Research and Energy Division (CARE), Zero Emissions Vehicles Ireland (ZEVI), and Sustainable Mobility Management and Implementation Division (SMMID).

Responsibilities in relation to EU, North-South and International Affairs are managed by the EU and International Division (EUID). This includes the coordination, development and representation of Ireland’s position on transport at relevant international fora and preparing for Ireland’s assumption of the EU Presidency in 2026.
