Ireland's Climate Action Plan under the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021 envisages the public sector leading by example on climate action to reach the target of reducing Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030 and becoming climate neutral no later than 2050.
To support public sector bodies leading by example, a Public Sector Climate Action Mandate now applies to public bodies covered by the CAP25 decarbonisation targets, with the exception of except for local authorities, commercial semi state bodies, and schools. Public Sector Bodies are required to put in place a Climate Action Roadmap to report on our progress towards achieving the GHG emission reduction and energy efficiency target’s set out in the Climate Action Plan.
This Climate Action Roadmap for the Department of Transport has been developed with the support and guidance of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). It sets out an analysis of the 2030 GHG target and current gap to target from the baseline. It also identifies current and planned actions to bridge that gap between now and 2030.
The themes laid out in the Climate Action Roadmap are guided by SEAI guidance documentation and the Climate Action Plan.
