The Corporate Affairs function provides leadership on strategic planning and good governance. We ensure that the department has sufficient capacity to deliver on business objectives, and that our people are supported to deliver their best in the public interest. The Assistant Secretary General is responsible for a range of functions including Finance (with a budget of almost €4 billion available to the department in 2025), Human Resources, Corporate Services, Agency Governance, Communications, Legal support, Risk and Reform.
In line with Civil Service and Public Service reform agendas, a strong focus is placed on strengthening employee experience, talent attraction and retention to ensure the Department continues to be a high‑performing and future‑ready organisation. Our progress in this space continues to be recognised externally, in addition to winning the HR and Leadership Award in 2024 for Best Public Sector HR Initiative and the HR Champion Award for Best Change Management Programme in 2023, the Department was shortlisted for CIPD Awards in 2025 and 2026, receiving Highly Commended recognition in the AI, Technology and Workforce Transformation category in 2026.
