The responsibilities of Roads Policy and Investment includes: road freight policy and the Government Road Haulage Strategy; promoting and advancing safety on the roads including coordination of the Government Road Safety Strategy; the delivery of new roads and the supporting the protection and renewal of the road network, both for national roads and for the regional and local roads network; and development of strategy on the future use of automated and connected vehicles. The Assistant Secretary for Roads Policy and Investment is also responsible for the corporate governance oversight of Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the Road Safety Authority and the Medical Bureau of Road Safety.
