Mr Cronin is an outgoing member of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin (OLCHC) Boards, Chairman of Avison Young, a Property Advisory and Chartered Surveying Firm, and past Chairman of the General Practice Committee of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland. A former president of Rowing Ireland (2013-2016), the all-Ireland body responsible for governing and promoting the sport of rowing.
Ms Cryan is a former employer member of the Labour Court, a position she held for six years up to October 2016. A Social Science graduate of University College Dublin, she began her career as an Industrial Relations Executive with IBEC, where she represented employers in direct negotiations with trade unions and at third party fora. For the greater part of her career, she worked with the Brown Thomas Group, ultimately as Human Resources Director, with responsibility for all aspects of the Human Resource and Industrial Relations functions. Throughout her career, Ms Cryan has served on a number of boards, including the Employment Equality Agency, the Dublin Institute of Technology, and the National Employment Rights Agency.
Professor Elliott’s current appointments include: Consultant Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon, The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH), 1985 to present (currently 2 days per week), Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, University College London, 2004 to present, Professor of Physic, Gresham College, London, 2014-2018. Fellow, Gresham College, London 2018 – Present. Chief Medical Officer, Allocate Software Ltd, 2017- present (1.5 days pcm).Non-Executive Director, The Royal Marsden Hospital NHS FT, London, 2017- present (2 days pcm), Senior Advisor, PA Consulting Ltd, from Dec 2018 (2days pcm),Tribunal Member (https://chinatribunal.com) from 2018 investigating forced organ donation in China.
Professor Elliott has helped set up many teams, notably thoracic transplantation (he led this team from 2000 to 2010) and ECMO at GOSH. He formed the Tracheal Service at GOSH (which he led from 2000 to 2015). This became the English National Service for Severe Tracheal Disease in Children in 2006, the largest and most successful such service in the world. He sat on relevant NHS specialist committees.
He was Divisional Director of cardiorespiratory and intensive care services at GOSH from 2000 to 2010. He was co-Medical Director of GOSH from 2010-2015, and a full Board Member. He took part in successful Foundation Trust application. He was appointed a non-Executive Director of The Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2017, and the Trust was judged outstanding in the recent CQC review, and outstanding in the ‘well-led’ component. Interested in how the private sector works, he was appointed Chief Medical Officer of Allocate Software Ltd in 2017 and became a member of the Novartis Industry Advisory Council in 2018.
Dr Lavery graduated in Medicine from The Queen’s University of Belfast (QUB) and then trained as an anaesthetist, specialising in Intensive Care Medicine and Trauma Care. He completed his Fellowship (FFARCSI) in 1983 and an MD in 1986. He became Senior Fellow/Chief Resident in Critical Care at the University of Western Ontario before being appointed to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast as the first Consultant specifically trained in Intensive Care Medicine. In 2000, he designed and led a new service for the transfer of critically-ill adults throughout Northern Ireland (NICCaTS). Under his leadership until 2012, this service transferred over 6000 such patients.
He has held many professional roles; President of the Intensive Care Society of Ireland; Council member of the Intensive Care Society UK and Member of the Education committee of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine; Member of the College of Assessors at the Health Foundation; Examiner for three colleges.
From 2011-2017, Dr Lavery was Clinical Director, HSC Safety Forum, the lead organization for patient safety and quality improvement in N.Ireland. From 2014-2016 he sat on the Quality Standards Advisory Committee at the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE). He has published more than 60 peer reviewed papers, 12 chapters and has supervised 3 postgraduate theses.
Internationally, he has been a Board member of the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Foundation, and the (international) Pediatric Intensive Care Society. He established the European Congenital Heart Defects Database (Now the EACTS database). He was the founding President of the International Society for Nomenclature in Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease stimulated by a desire to standardize electronic communication in the field.
Catherine Guy was appointed to the board of Children's Health Ireland in 2019. Catherine is currently CEO of Auto lease Fleet Management Limited. A solicitor by training, Catherine was the Managing Partner of Byrne Wallace Law firm (2012 - 2018) with overall responsibility for the management and direction of the firm's strategy, finance, corporate governance and business development. Prior to that, Catherine was a partner in the firm and led the Property and Construction division. She is ranked as an "Eminent Practitioner" by Chambers Europe. She is a Chartered Director and holds a diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors, and a Professional Certificate in Governance from the Institute of Public Administration (2021). She was appointed as an independent director of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) in January 2020 and chairs the FAI board Governance Committee.
Brigid McManus served as Secretary General of the Department of Education and Skills from 2005 to 2012. Prior to becoming Secretary General, she held senior management roles in the Departments of Finance and of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands where she worked on a diverse range of public policy and management issues. As Secretary General of the Department of Education and Skills she oversaw the policy framework for and funding and governance of primary, second level, further and higher education. During that time, she was a member of the Top-Level Appointments Committee for senior civil service appointments.
Brigid has served on a number of Boards of Public and Not-for -Profit Bodies. She has been a member of the CHI Board since 2018 and currently is a member of the Governing Body of National College of Ireland, Chairperson of the Health Research Consent Declaration Committee (HRCDC) and is chairing the Judicial Planning Working Group.
