International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is a celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It also brings attention to gender parity and women's rights. The Office of Public Works (OPW) is delighted to honour International Women’s Day by showcasing the journeys and experiences of three inspiring women within our organisation.

While positive advances have been made towards gender parity in society, more progress is needed towards achieving equality. A culture of gender equality benefits everyone. However, social stereotypes about gender prevail. Gender stereotypes can strike early and can have a lasting impact.

The OPW is in a unique position to highlight the range of opportunities and experiences available to women across multiple disciplines, including engineering, architecture and IT. A wide variety of backgrounds, skillsets and perspectives are essential to our work delivering public services for flood protection, managing government properties and heritage services.

Our International Women's Day videos feature female staff from units across the organisation discussing their unique experiences. Role models like these are vital in proving what’s possible and signposting the way to a more inclusive future. We’re proud to give our colleagues a platform to challenge stereotypes, inspire others and encourage further progress towards gender equality.
