€230 million Rosslare Europort complex officially opened

The new Customs and Border Control Complex - Terminal 7 - at Rosslare Europort in Rosslare, Co. Wexford was officially opened on November 7.

The construction of the new complex is one of the biggest capital infrastructure projects of its kind delivered in Ireland. The final cost of the project, which has been delivered on time and to budget, will be in the order of €230 million. The new facility will handle post-Brexit checks on goods coming into the country from outside the EU.

The project consists of the construction of 28 permanent new buildings, including the replacement of temporary infrastructure and processing facilities which have been in place since new regulations came into effect with Brexit at the beginning of 2021.

The new complex will enhance driver welfare and streamline access and exits points for passenger and freight ferries.

There are permanent facilities at the new complex to check food products and compliance with sanitary legislation and are designed to provide protection for the EU single market.

It also accommodates the new truck scanner which allows the Office of the Revenue Commissioners to carry out checks on vehicles as they enter the country, a vital resource in Revenue’s strategy to target fraud.

The facility was officially opened by the Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation (DPER), Jack Chambers together with Kevin “Boxer” Moran, Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW).
