Appointment and Assignment to the District Court

At its meeting yesterday, the government agreed to nominate Ms. Éiteáin Cunningham, Solicitor, for appointment by the President of Ireland as an Ordinary Judge of the District Court.

The government also decided that the newly appointed Judge will be directly assigned to District 1 (Donegal) where a vacancy has existed since the previous incumbent, Judge Raymond Finnegan, was assigned to District 5 (Cavan/Monaghan) with effect from 16 November 2021.

The government has taken the necessary steps to formally advise President Higgins of the nomination in accordance with constitutional practice.
