The Office of Public Works (OPW) is delighted to host two unique textile art exhibitions at Dublin Castle this autumn. The exhibitions entitled ‘Beyond Chaos’ and ‘ROOTS’ will run from September 2024 until January 2025.
Beyond Chaos – Textile Journey Collective
Beyond Chaos is an exhibition by the Textile Journey Collective curated by Sarah Ross. This exhibition showcases the work of all-island art practitioners with various access needs, at all stages of their careers. The collective is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion through their shared skills and ideas.
The artwork featured in Beyond Chaos is divided into two strands. The first showcases the personal practice of each artist, with pieces that convey personal messages developed and the outreach work they have done with communities. The personal pieces are developed behind closed doors and share artists personal messages. The second strand highlights the outreach work done by the artists with various communities. This includes work from individuals around the globe, as well as projects developed through inclusion and diversity programmes by the Irish Department of Education, the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture, and the Irish expat community in Australia. Don't miss this one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience textile art that celebrates diversity and promotes inclusion. Join us at Dublin Castle for Beyond Chaos.
ROOTS – A Dialogue in Textile and Poetry
ROOTS – a dialogue in textile and poetry is an exhibition that showcases Element15 artist’s interpretation of Jane Clarke’s poetry. It highlights the connection across the different art forms to bring to the forefront how we fabricate memory, imagination, emotion and ideas into something that resonates in minds and hearts. The ancient connections between words and textiles reach back to their roots in language. Both ‘text’ and ‘textile’ come from the Latin word ‘texere’, meaning to weave, write and tell a story. The interweaving link between textile and dialogue is highlighted throughout the exhibition, giving visual expression to the quiet, powerful words within Jane Clarke’s poetry. Set within the context of Irish women’s lives today, ROOTS speaks to the eternal human concerns of living, loving and dying.
