Appointments made to the Board of Foras na Gaeilge

The twelfth North South Ministerial Council Institutional Meeting was held today, Wednesday 16 December 2020, in the NSMC Joint Secretariat Offices.
The Council approved the appointment of new Board Members to the Language Body, including three members nominated by the Irish Government. Liam Rush was appointed to the board of Foras na Gaeilge for a four year term and both Máire Ní Neachtain and Sorcha Ní Chéidigh were reappointed to the board of Foras na Gaeilge for a further year. Further appointments will be made in 2021.
Speaking about these appointments today, Minister Catherine Martin and Minister of State Jack Chambers said they were looking forward to working with the new Board, and they thanked the outgoing Board Chairman, Pól Ó Gallchóir for his work and positive contribution to the work of Language Body and the Irish language in general throughout the island during his term.
Biography Notes
Sorcha Ní Chéidigh, a native of Leitir Móir, Co Galway, is an actress and holds an Honours Degree in Communication from NUIG (National University of Ireland Galway) as well as a Higher Diploma in Drama and Applied Irish from GMIT. She also writes for Ros na Rún, directs children’s television programmes, as well as teaching Irish dancing. She has worked extensively with young people in Gaeltacht areas over the past 10 years as both drama and dance teacher.
Máire Ní Neachtain is from Baile ‘a tSagairt, An Spidéal in the Cois Fharraige Gaeltacht, Co. Galway. She is a former Head of Irish Department and Assistant Dean in the Faculty of Arts at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. Máire has a keen interest in the arts and community work. She is an active volunteer in Irish language matters within the Gaeltacht and in language and cultural organisations outside of the Gaeltacht. She is Chairperson of Fóram Chois Fharraige um Pleanáil Teanga.
Liam Rushe is an accountant with PWC. He also works with Spórt TG4 as a sports commentator. He plays hurling with the Dublin Senior Hurling Team and with St. Patrick’s Palmerstown.
