The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Michael McGrath, has today (Wednesday 18 May) launched an updated Investment Projects and Programmes Tracker and updated MyProjectIreland interactive map.
This suite of material showcases the steady progress being made in the implementation of Project Ireland 2040, which sets out a clear long-term strategy backed by investment of €165 billion over a 10 year period as presented in the National Development Plan 2021 - 2030. The Tracker and Map were last published alongside the launch of the revised National Development Plan in October 2021.
This latest revision of the Tracker provides a composite update on the progress of all major investments that make up Project Ireland 2040. It focuses on projects with estimated costs greater than €20 million. Today’s update provides progress updates on over 270 projects and 140 programmes, including almost 100 projects in excess of €50 million, and incorporates user-friendly dashboards to aid in using the material.
MyProjectIreland was launched in May 2019 alongside the first Project Ireland 2040 Annual Report.
Developed in collaboration with Ordnance Survey Ireland, MyProjectIreland is a citizen-focussed interactive map. By clicking on the map at www.gov.ie/2040, citizens can find updated information on what has been achieved and what is planned for their own local area and includes user-friendly mobile and search functionality. This update expands the coverage of the map to incorporate over 1,100 projects.
Minister McGrath said:
“Significant progress has been made in the delivery of Project Ireland 2040 and the National Development Plan. Hosted at gov.ie/2040, the Tracker and Map provides people with in-depth information on what is going on in their town, city, county, province or region.
“With an investment of €165 billion in capital projects and programmes, the National Development Plan shows the ambition of the government with the largest ever public capital investment plan in the history of the State. This year €12.2 billion is available to spend on vital infrastructure in areas such as housing, transport, education, enterprise, sport and climate action.
“I am conscious of the challenges to the delivery of NDP posed by the increases in the prices of construction materials in the aftermath of the pandemic and as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. My department has put in place a series of policy measures to mitigate those challenges and will continue to assess and respond to a rapidly changing environment.
"A core objective of the National Development Plan delivery is to ensure value for money for the taxpayer. To achieve this aim, my department has put in place an External Assurance Process (EAP) to provide independent scrutiny for major public capital projects (projects which cost in excess of €100 million).
“The government is committed to delivering the National Development Plan for our country. It will build a more sustainable and resilient Ireland for the benefit of all our people.”
