Statement following Taoiseach's phone call with President Erdogan

Taoiseach Simon Harris today spoke with the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Mr Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

President Erdogan warmly welcomed Ireland’s recognition of the State of Palestine and said it would strengthen efforts to secure a two-state solution to the conflict in the Middle East.

They discussed the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and agreed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, release of hostages and unhindered access for aid.

The Taoiseach also spoke about using every lever possible at EU level to bring an end to the conflict and suffering.
