Appointment to the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman Council

The Minister for Finance, Michael McGrath, has today announced the appointment of Peter Rossiter to the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman Council for a five-year term.

Commenting on the appointment, Minister McGrath said:

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Rossiter to the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman Council.

Peter brings a wealth of experience and expertise in corporate governance and digital finance to the role, having held senior management positions at a number of Irish and overseas financial institutions.

I want to congratulate Peter on his appointment and I wish him all the best for his term.”

Maeve Dineen, Chair of the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman Council, said:

“We look forward to welcoming Peter onto the Council. Peter’s vast experience ensures our Council expertise continues to reflect an appropriate mix of skills to match the evolving nature of financial services industry.”

The appointment follows a public call for applications on stateboards.ie and an assessment process.

Peter Rossiter

Peter Rossiter is a former Chief Risk Officer with extensive banking experience in OECD and emerging markets, including Ireland, United Kingdom, Central & Eastern Europe, Russia, Turkey and Middle East.

Peter has held C-suite roles in publicly-quoted financial institutions and two fintech challenger-bank start-ups, in highly regulated markets, including regular interaction with boards, regulators and other stakeholders.

He is a Chartered Accountant and holder of a Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors.

Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman Council

The Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman Council was established by Section 37 of the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman Act 2017. The functions of the Council include determining the financial services industry levy, keeping under review the efficiency and effectiveness of the Ombudsman, advising the Minister for Finance on any matter relevant to the performance of the functions of the Ombudsman, and to advise the Ombudsman on any matter on which the Ombudsman seeks advice.

The Council has no role with respect to how the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman deals with a particular complaint submitted to him.

The legislation requires that the Council shall consist of not less than 5 and not more than 7 members (including the chairperson) as the Minster decides.
