The Government also approves the referral of the Bill to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine for pre-legislative scrutiny.
The drafting of the Animal Health and Welfare (Amendment and Miscellaneous provisions) Bill 2021 along the lines of the General Scheme provides for the legislative framework to :
a) implement a prohibition on the keeping of animals primarily for their fur or skin,
b) provide for a scheme of compensation for the three fur farms currently operating in the State that will be directly impacted by the proposed prohibition, and
c) introduce other miscellaneous amendments to the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013
