gov.ie is the government website and is mandated by a government decision. It should contain any information that a member of the public might want or need.
The sites are designed to get information to the user in the simplest manner possible. All content that goes on to gov.ie has to reach minimum standards of plain English.
All sites created by a department or body under the aegis of a department should live on gov.ie. The only exceptions are:
- sites that have custom applications or map integrations on them
- sites that have software requirements that can't be hosted on gov.ie
The gov.ie team will liaise with the department content manager to assess and create each site as it comes in. Sites can have their own URL or a gov.ie/ URL but custom URL domains are the responsibility of the requesting department.
gov.ie is the site where all department sub-sites should live including:
- commissions
- campaign sites (once approved by GIS in the Department of the Taoiseach)
- appeal sites
- sites that are independent of departments
All sites created outside of gov.ie must be permitted by GIS.
