Designation of Public Bodies as a Competent Authority ‘D’ under the Maritime Area Planning (MAP) Act 2021

Designated Maritime Area Plans or DMAPs are forward-looking sub-national plans that contribute to the overall vision for marine spatial planning in the Irish maritime area.
The designation may be in respect of one or more than one of the following
- all or specified activities of a competent authority for the purposes of the MSP Directive
- acting as a coordinating body for some or all of the competent authorities for some of their activities
- one or more than one designated geographical or sectoral area(s), or both, of the maritime area.
In order to prepare a DMAP, a public body must first be designated as a competent authority by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage under Part 2 of the Maritime Area Planning Act 2021. Details of designations, amendments and revocations are listed below.
