All technical data that are obtained under petroleum authorisations issued by the Minister must be reported to DECC, who manages and maintains the National Repository of such data. This Repository includes data from wells (including geological samples), geophysical surveys and technical studies.
In order to assist effective petroleum exploration, DECC makes this data available publically, as soon as the confidentiality period has expired.

In June 2014 the confidentiality period for all new speculative and multi seismic data acquired in the entire Irish offshore area was increased to ten years.
The department engages specific Data Agents to prepare, manage, market and license exploration data. Data can be obtained from the following organisations:
