The aim of National Play Day is to promote play opportunities for children and young people all across the country. This year, Local Authorities can elect to have their Play Day between July 1st and 8th.
This year’s theme is Wonder and Discovery. This theme was chosen to represent the wonder and discovery that unfolds when children play outside. Ensuring children have access to outdoor play means they will have many opportunities for developing their imagination and physical abilities. Playing in nature also presents opportunities for exploration and adventure. The focus of Play Day 2023 is children experiencing the natural world by playing outside.
Each year the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth funds Local Authorities to engage in Play Day. Each Local Authority across the country will shortly announce their plans for a diverse range of outdoor activities that are targeted at all children and young people in the respective Local Authority communities for Play Day 2023.
