Special Advisers to Ministers and Ministers of State may be appointed by Government in accordance with the provisions of Section 11 of the Public Service Management Act 1997.
The terms approved by Government for the appointment of Special Advisers to Ministers and certain Ministers of State of the 33rd Dáil are set out in Instructions to HR Managers on Ministerial Appointments for the 33rd Dáil .
Following the rotation of Taoiseach on 17/12/22 Ministers and Ministers of State were required to reappoint their respective Special Advisers. The formal appointment of a Special Adviser requires a Government Order to be made in each instance. Details of all concluded appointments for Special Advisers up to 11 July 2023 inclusive are published in the below List of Special Advisers to the 33rd Dáil. This list will be periodically updated to reflect any future amendments.
A copy of the Government Order formally appointing each Special Adviser is available in the Statutory Instruments section of the Irish Statute Book website at http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/statutory.html
All queries in respect of individual Special Adviser appointments should be directed to the respective Line Department to which a Special Adviser is assigned.
