Maximum Nitrates Derogation Stocking Rate Limits Map 2025

DAFM will be contacting potential Nitrates Derogation applicants directly, where their land area’s maximum stocking rate will change to 220kg livestock manure nitrogen per hectare from the 1st of December 2025.

FAQ on Nitrates Derogation and the move to 220

Under the Good Agricultural Practice for Protection of Waters (GAP) Regulations (S.I. 588 of 2025) farmers must not apply more than 170kgs of nitrogen from livestock manure per hectare per year. Compliance with the GAP regulations is one of the Statutory Management Requirements under Cross Compliance.
