While providing high-quality language learning opportunities and promoting competence in both of the official languages, Irish and English, is a very important objective of government, the learning of a range of foreign languages in Ireland must also be targeted.
There is a significant opportunity for Ireland to excel on the global stage. Education providers and employers must work together to increase awareness of the importance of gaining proficiency in foreign languages

The education system must support learners of all ages to gain the skills and confidence to be not only Irish and EU citizens but also global citizens, to understand other cultures and societies, as well as to develop the skills to function and thrive in our modern global economy.
