PISA is an initiative of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). PISA assesses the knowledge and skills of 15-and 16-year-old students in three cognitive domains: mathematics, reading and science. The tests explore how well students can solve complex problems, think critically and communicate effectively. This gives insights into how well education systems are preparing students for real life challenges and future success. In Ireland, PISA is implemented by the Educational Research Centre (ERC) on behalf of the Department of Education.
