Assistant Secretary, Aviation and Emergency Planning

The Aviation and Emergency Planning Division of the Department is responsible for delivering on the goals of Ireland’s National Aviation Policy which are to:

  1. enhance Ireland’s connectivity by ensuring safe, secure and competitive access responsive to the needs of business, tourism and consumers;
  2. foster the growth of aviation enterprise in Ireland to support job creation and position Ireland as a recognised global leader in aviation; and
  3. maximise the contribution of the aviation sector to Ireland’s economic growth and development.

It is also responsible for research and the further development of Ireland’s national aviation policy and for representing Irish aviation interests at EU level and internationally.

The Division also has responsibility for corporate governance oversight of the State aviation agencies - daa, Shannon Airport Group, Irish Aviation Authority and AirNav Ireland and ensuring that the agencies deliver on their statutory mandates.

In relation to emergency planning, the Division is responsible for developing and driving emergency preparedness within the Department and across all transport modes nationally through development of the Department’s Emergency Coordination Framework and engagement with the Government Task Force on Emergency Planning.
