The Homeowner's Once-Off Payment is for some people who applied for the Mortgage Interest Tax Credit from the Revenue Commissioners for their mortgage interest payment for the year 2023, but who were ineligible for any tax relief because they did not have any qualifying tax liability. This scheme applies in respect of mortgage interest payments in 2023 only.
You must have completed a 2023 income tax return with the Revenue Commissioners and must qualify for the Mortgage Interest Tax Credit. If you did not have any qualifying tax liability in respect of 2023 and cannot benefit from any of the Mortgage Interest Tax Credit from Revenue, you can apply to the Department of Social Protection to be considered for the temporary Homeowner's Once-Off Payment 2024.
This once-off payment amount is based on the increase in qualifying interest you paid in 2023 compared to 2022. You can get up to 20% of the difference in interest paid, with a maximum of €1,250.
To apply, fill in the application form for Homeowner's Once-Off Payment below. The department’s Community Welfare Services or local Citizens Information Service can help you fill in this form.
