02 January 2021: Resumption of Home Tuition Services delayed to 11 January see letter issued to parents / guardians
The Department of Education operates three different categories of home tuition.
This scheme is for children who, for a number of reasons such as chronic illness, are unable to attend school. The scheme is also for children with special educational needs who are seeking an educational placement. Provision is also made for early educational intervention for children with autism.

Strand 1 of this scheme provides a temporary educational measure for a child who is temporarily without a school place, or without the offer of a school place and for whom a school place is being actively sought in a school recognised by the Department of Education.
Strand 2 of this scheme is for children in care, who are without a school place due to emergency placement or placement disruption.

Application forms for strand 1 are available from the local Educational Welfare Officer. You will find contact details for the Educational Welfare Officer on the TUSLA website .
Application forms for strand 2 are available from the appointed social worker.
This scheme is to provide home tuition to students who are enrolled in a recognised school at post-primary level studying at junior or senior cycle and whose education may be disrupted due to pregnancy.

The rates for home tuition payments from the 01 October 2020 are:
Primary Qualified Rate | € 39.09 per hour |
Post Primary Qualified Rate | € 47.01 per hour |
Modified Rate | € 35.14 per hour |
Once a payment claim form is received, the Department of Education will pay the approved tutor directly. Information and all claim forms required are listed below:
