Met Éireann Weather Warning System

Met Eireann issue Weather Alerts and Warnings whenever severe or extreme weather conditions are anticipated within a 48-hr period. Warnings are labelled according to a colour-coded system based on the expected impact and are as follows:

  • STATUS YELLOW - Weather Alert - Be Aware - to notify those who are at risk because of their location and/or activity, and to allow them to take preventative action
  • STATUS ORANGE - Weather Warning - Be Prepared - for weather conditions which have the capacity to impact significantly on people in the affected areas
  • STATUS RED - Severe Weather Warning - Take Action - should be a comparatively rare event and implies that recipients take action to protect themselves and/or their properties

Weather Advisories may be issued to provide early information on potential hazardous weather beyond the 48-hour horizon.
