The Victims Charter

The purpose of the Victims Charter is to provide guidance and help you to find support if you or someone you know has been a victim of crime.

It explains the help and services available and provides an overview of how the criminal justice system in Ireland works, and what you can expect. The process may understandably feel daunting or overwhelming, and this resource is here to help make things clearer and easier.

It is important to remember that you are not alone, and support is available. On gov.ie/VictimsCharter you can find resources and knowledge to help guide you through this difficult time.

Your Journey As a Victim of Crime

On this site, your potential interaction with the criminal justice system is divided into three main stages: the Support and Report Stage, the Courts Process and the Post-Trial Stage.

Information is provided that is specific to each stage, helping you understand your rights, the process, and how to access the support you need.

You will also find sections about your rights and the law, ensuring you feel informed and empowered to take each step with confidence, and useful information on what to expect when attending court, and other resources.
