The Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund. The funding offers the opportunity to support close collaboration between stakeholders along the entire bio-based value chain at the Just Transition Fund territorial level, including SMEs, research performing organisations, universities, local authorities, clusters, primary producers, bioprocessing industries, and consumer brands.
The 2023 Call for proposals under this scheme was opened by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine between 16 August to 13 October 2023. This Call is now closed. Proposals submitted under this Call are currently going through an evaluation process. Successful proposals will be announced in due course.
It is anticipated that another EU Just Transition Fund Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative Scheme Call will open in 2024.
For more information on this scheme, and the 2023 Call for proposals, please see: 2023 Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative – EU Just Transition Fund
As part of the Shared Island Initiative, the Government has awarded €7 million for an All-Island Bioeconomy Demonstrator initiative to support the integration of biobased innovation in the agriculture and marine sectors across the island of Ireland.
In response, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, working in consultation with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs in Northern Ireland, has established the ‘Shared Island Fund Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative Scheme’. Supported by the €7m allocated from the Shared Island Fund, this new funding opportunity for the bioeconomy will be offered through a competitive funding Call, due to be opened in the final quarter of 2023.
