Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, today (Thursday, 23rd May) officially opened two transformative projects funded under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) in County Roscommon.
The An Chistin Food Hub project received €2.78 million under the RRDF with an additional investment of almost €1 million provided by Roscommon County Council.
Speaking today at Castlerea, Minister Humphreys said:
“This is a hugely significant day for County Roscommon as we officially unveil two major rural projects. I was delighted to officially open the An Chistin Food Hub – a €3.7 million state of the art training and community kitchen supported by funding of over €2.7 million from my Department’s Rural Regeneration and Development Fund and almost €1 million provided by Roscommon County Council”.
Also today, Minister Humphreys opened the €4.2 million Monksland Innovation Hub. The Hub received funding of €3.2 million from the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund with an additional investment of over €1 million from Roscommon County Council.
Speaking at Monksland, Minister Humphreys said:
“I am very pleased that I have been able to support the Monksland Innovation Hub project with investment of €3.2 million from my Department’s Rural Regeneration and Development Fund. The An Chistin Food Hub and Monkland Innovation Hub will be major drivers of enterprise and job creation in the region”.
These investments support the Government’s Our Rural Future policy, which is focussed on revitalising rural areas, making them better places to live, work, invest and raise a family.
Our Rural Future
Our Rural Future is the whole-of-government policy for rural Ireland for the period 2021-2025. It offers a blueprint for a thriving and inclusive rural Irelands and adopts a more strategic, ambitious and holistic approach to investing in and maximising opportunities for rural areas.
Rural Regeneration and Development Fund
The Rural Regeneration and Development Fund provides funding for the development and construction of capital projects in towns and villages and rural areas across Ireland. In total the RRDF has now provided funding of €577 for 245 projects worth €768 million.
In relation to projects in County Roscommon, the RRDF has provided funding of €24.5 million for 11 projects worth over €31.7 million.
