The Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure & Reform, Paschal Donohoe TD, will travel today (Thursday) to London to speak at the Enterprise Ireland Financial Services Dinner, hosted by the Embassy of Ireland.
Following on from his successful visit to Berlin and Frankfurt this week, Minister Donohoe will emphasise the breadth and depth of relations with the United Kingdom, with a particular focus on the financial services industry. The event will also provide an occasion to mark the success of Irish Diaspora in the industry, the contribution they make, and the assistance they provide to Enterprise Ireland and client companies.
Minister Donohoe will also undertake a series of bilateral business engagements aimed at deepening Ireland’s engagement with the UK.
Speaking in advance of his visit, the Minister said:
“The main objective of my visit to London is to underline the importance of the relationship with our nearest neighbours, and highlight the two-way nature of it, particularly in relation to trade.
Despite the challenges that Brexit will bring, I look forward to seeing this important relationship continuing to grow and diversify in the coming years.
The International Financial Services sector is an important one for Ireland, which now employs over 46,000 people across 17 counties. The Government recently launched the ‘Ireland for Finance’ strategy which looks to further develop Ireland as a location of choice for financial services providers. I look forward to meeting leaders from the industry in London and reinforce the breadth of Ireland’s offering in this important sector.”
