The Taoiseach, Tánaiste and Ministers have today met to consider the State's response to extreme weather events.

The Cabinet Committee agreed that:

  •  Flood relief schemes will be expedited with processes to be run in parallel;
    • Interim measures will be carried out in areas at risk of flooding;
    • The Office of Public Works will be given the authority to procure equipment for local authorities to manage;
    • Local authorities will be given authority to commence road repairs.

The meeting agreed there will be a permanent structure to manage extreme weather events across Government and proposals on this will be brought forward shortly.
