Statement following a meeting of Government Ministers on response to extreme weather events

The Taoiseach, Tánaiste and Ministers have today met to consider the State's response to extreme weather events.
The Cabinet Committee agreed that:
- Flood relief schemes will be expedited with processes to be run in parallel;
• Interim measures will be carried out in areas at risk of flooding;
• The Office of Public Works will be given the authority to procure equipment for local authorities to manage;
• Local authorities will be given authority to commence road repairs.
The meeting agreed there will be a permanent structure to manage extreme weather events across Government and proposals on this will be brought forward shortly.
