Following publication of the first report of the Interdepartmental Group on Security of Ireland’s Electoral Process and Disinformation, a public consultation was launched on Regulation of Online Political Advertising in Ireland. Views and comments from all stakeholders and members of the public were invited. The consultation was open for submissions from 21 September to 19 October 2018.
A brief discussion paper on the issue was made available. The consultation documents are available to download below.
The submissions received provided a basis for an Open Policy Forum on the issue in December 2018.

The Government established an Interdepartmental Group to consider security of the election process and disinformation.
Discussion Paper – Regulation of Online Political Advertising in Ireland
The aim of this paper is to outline the issues and challenges involved in regulating transparency of online political advertising, and provide a basis for a public consultation in advance of an open policy forum to be held in the autumn.
