Senior Marine Advisor, Marine Advisory and Planning

The Marine Environment and Planning Section has responsibility for:

  • Ensuring the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment's (DCEE) priorities are included in forthcoming National Planning Framework
  • Leading on DCEE's role in development of new planning legislation, secondary legislation and sequence of commencement of new Planning Act 2024
  • Supporting Marine Planning Policy Section in preparation/development of next phase of Designated Maritime Area Plans (DMAPs) as well as other competent authorities
  • Delivering Offshore Wind Energy Marine Planning Guidelines
  • Designation and management of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Ireland's maritime area
  • Implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive
  • The OSPAR Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North East Atlantic
  • National Implementation of the UN Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction Agreement (BBNJ Agreement)
  • Tech support on Environmental Noise Directive compliance
  • Developing lead role on a cross-government work programme on Imperative Reasons of Overriding Public Interest (IROPI)
