High quality, secure and reliable international connectivity to the Global Internet backbone in telecommunications networks is of significant strategic importance to the Irish State.
The purpose of this public consultation is to seek the views of interested parties on the current status of international connectivity for telecommunications in Ireland. This will allow the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) to gather information and consider views from relevant stakeholders to inform policy development and decision making.
The consultation document below provides an introduction to the topic and presents the summary findings from an industry survey conducted by DECC during 2019. There are seven specific questions posed that relate to capacity, diversity of routes, key challenges and how Ireland is positioned internationally.
Through this consultation DECC is seeking submissions from telecommunication service providers and large volume users of international links (including content providers and data centre owners).
The closing date for submissions is 5pm on 27 November 2020
You can email your submission to IntComms@decc.gov.ie
