The Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan has appointed Mr. Joe Hamill as Chairperson of the Board of the National Concert Hall, with effect from 27 October 2025, to serve for an interim period until the completion of an open competition for the role of Chairperson and for a number of ordinary members of the Board.
Mr. Hamill is a former Secretary General of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
Minister O’Donovan said:
"I wish to thank Joe Hamill for agreeing to serve as Chairperson of the Board of the National Concert Hall. He brings considerable experience as a result of his previous role as Secretary General of the department which oversees the National Cultural Institutions. A public competition through PublicJobs for a new Chairperson and additional Board members will shortly commence. I expect to make these appointments by early in 2026. The appointment of Mr. Hamill as Chairperson will enable the Board to fully discharge its responsibilities during the interim period."
The Board of the National Concert Hall is established under the National Cultural Institutions (National Concert Hall) Act 2015. The Chairperson and Board members do not receive a salary or fee.
Notes
The Board of the National Concert Hall comprises a Chair and nine Ordinary Members. Details of the current Board members are available at this link: National Concert Hall.
A combined competition to fill the three current Ordinary Member vacancies on the Board and also the role of Chairperson is due to launch during the week beginning 27 October 2025, through the State Boards service of Publicjobs.
