Ireland welcomes Bulgaria’s adoption of the Euro

The Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris T.D. has welcomed Bulgaria’s adoption of the Euro today, 1 January 2026.

The Tánaiste described the development as historic and said the move reflects the continued resilience of the Euro currency.

Speaking today, the Tánaiste said:

“This is a historic day for Bulgaria and the EU, and I want to welcome Bulgaria as the 21st member of the Euro area.

“This milestone is the result of dedicated work and commitment on the part of Bulgaria and highlights the continued attractiveness and resilience of the euro.

“I look forward to continuing to work closely with my Bulgarian colleagues, especially at the Eurogroup meetings.”
