August monthly commencement data published

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has published its monthly data on the number of Commencement Notices received (indicators of residential construction starts) for August 2025.

The data shows that 1,156 commencement notices for new homes were lodged in August 2025-an increase from July’s 1,059 units (up 9.2%).

From January 2025 to August 2025, there were 8,540 notices received. On a rolling 12-month basis, (September 2024 to August 2025) 38,895 commencement notices were received.

Of the 1,156 units commenced in August 490 (42.5%) are scheme dwellings, 339 (29.3%) are apartments and 327 (28.2%) are for one-off units.

By local authority, most commencement notices this year so far have been for Dublin City (1,522) followed by Cork County (695) and Fingal County (670).
