Interim Review on the Implementation of the Water Action Plan 2024

The Water Action Plan 2024 is Ireland’s third river basin management plan (RBMP) for the period 2022-2027, as required under the EU Water Framework Directive. It provides a roadmap setting out the actions required to protect and restore water quality in Ireland. The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH) has been assigned an action under the Water Action Plan 2024 to carry out an interim review of the implementation of the plan’s Programme of Measures (Action 5.1). As this plan was published in September 2024, this interim review report focuses on progress with the implementation of the Water Action Plan 2024 up to 31 December 2025. The outcomes of this report will allow for the identification of implementation gaps and highlight areas that need to be changed, improved on or strengthened to enhance progress for the remainder of the cycle.
